Decent municipal course in a picturesque seaside location
Located about 40 minutes from Phuket and not far from Khao Lak, the Navy-managed Tublamu Navy Golf Course is a decent 18-hole layout with a number of holes running beside the ocean, all spectacularly framed by distant mountains and thick ancient jungles. While it's not winning any awards, this shortish course offers an enjoyable challenge in a rustic setting and is well worth a visit.
The par 3s perhaps are the stand out holes here. The 6th, at 153 yards not particularly long, features water from tee to green, while the very long 15th, at 230 yards, will have high handicappers reaching for the driver. There's another water carry off the tee at the par-4 7th, and even more water throughout the 9th, whose well-protected green leaves little margin for error.
Of the par 5s the 3rd is the toughest. At 563 yards and with water in play on every shot, the hole requires both length and accuracy. With the green set on a peninsula, an approach over water almost inevitable. For longer hitters a brave tee shot hugging the water left can drastically shorten the hole, but the risk of a watery grave is every present.
The clubhouse is adequate, but no more lavish than that, and the caddies and staff speak limited English, but a round here makes a lovely change to the resort style courses in the area.

Great layout let down by poor maintenance
This is a great golf course with some extremely challenging and long holes however the maintenance is very poor. The tee boxes were very rough and there was virtually no grass on the fairways. Greens were Ok but very slow. Caddies were not great and many of them are part-time. Do not attempt to play off blue tees unless you play off single figures.Don't expect too much and you can have a relaxing round
Although Tublamu Navy Course is not as perfectly manicured as other courses in Phuket, it has a old-world charm to it with very natural surroundings and three very picturesque holes running beside the sea. Excellent value and the caddies were polite and helpful.Course Info
