Hidden gem with spectacular views and an enjoyable challenge
Located near the Khao Sok National Park, the Rajjaprabha Dam Golf Course is surrounded by dense jungle and virgin forests, making use of its spectacular natural setting amongst limestone monoliths to provide an eco-diverse and exhilarating Thai golfing experience. The course features excellent layout, challenging holes, and picturesque landscaping of ancient hardwoods and rain forests.
Planning and ingenuity were required for the course layout and routing, with the pars 3's demanding due to their length. The 165-yard 6th, the shortest hole, provides views of the valley, dam, jungle, a pond, and bunkers behind the green. The 215-yard 16th is steep and requires a well-positioned tee shot, while the 365-yard 1st hole provides fantastic views, and the 377-yard 12th is unique, with a hidden bunker beyond.
The par 5's are long and challenging, with the 542-yard 7th being the longest and requiring three perfect shots to make par. It's a hilly course, so you're advised to take a golf cart unless you're in the mood for a real workout.
After the round, players can enjoy the basic clubhouse and restaurant serving southern Thai dishes at reasonable prices. Although it may be a well-kept secret due to its location, those on Koh Samui golf vacation can take advantage of this hidden gem and have a great Thai golfing experience. The drive to Rajjaprabha Dam is scenic and winding, leading up to a magnificent setting and a perfect combination of scenic beauty, sporting challenge, and golfing pleasure.
